Associate Veterinarian

Position Overview
Are you passionate about providing the best medical care to pets? Do you want to ignite your veterinary career and work with an AAHA accredited, winning team? At our practice, we are looking to expand our progressive team of veterinary healthcare super-heroes.

Location

We are located in the Mile-High City of Denver, Colorado. You get the best of both worlds – urban sophistication and outdoor adventures. You can enjoy hiking and camping in the summer and ski resorts in the winter as the Rocky Mountains are within a 1-hour drive. Easy access to I-70 and Denver International Airport.

Practice Overview

Park Hill Veterinary Medical Center opened in 2011 and continues to grow as a family-owned private practice in a bright, modern facility. Our mission critical, established by owner Dr. Margot Vahrenwald, is Where Your Pets Matter – focused on excellence in veterinary healthcare and client care delivered with a loving touch. As one of the leading clinics in Denver, we are proud to be an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and to follow Fear Free™/low stress patient handling techniques. We are passionate about pets and delivering excellent care. Our skilled nursing team allows you to focus your time on being a doctor diagnosing and treating patients. Additionally, we also offer the best equipment to deliver high quality medicine. We recognize that no day is the same and some days can be hard in our profession, so we believe in having fun too because laughter is the best medicine.

What You’ll Be Working On
  • Excellent communication and relationships with clients
  • Diagnose, treat and manage a variety of animal cases
  • Perform small animal surgeries with opportunities for mentorship if desired
  • Grow your veterinary dental skills with mentorship and continuing education
  • Guide and utilize exceptional skilled nursing staff
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited program is required
  • Being licensed or able to be licensed in the state of Colorado is required
  • Completion of general practice internship preferred; new graduates considered
  • Experience with soft skill surgery
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work every 3rd Saturday

Certified Veterinary Technician

What You’ll Be Working On
  • Excellent communication and relationships with clients
  • Assisting the veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a variety of animal cases
  • Primary job functions include venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication/fluid calculations, sterile patient prep, dental prophylaxis, anesthetic monitoring, handling diagnostic lab samples, cytology and more
  • Grow your skills with training, mentorship, and continuing education
Qualifications
  • Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) required
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a veterinary clinic required
  • Experience with anesthesia, surgical procedures, dental procedures, patient care required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work some Saturdays

Below are abbreviated summaries of our detailed job descriptions to highlight some of the work in each role.

Associate Veterinarian

Our Veterinarians:

  • Engage, communicate, and educate our clients on preventive care, nutrition, husbandry, disease states, diagnostic laboratory results, care of pets at different life stages, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and more
  • Provide preventive care along with diagnosing and treating diseases and dysfunctions in a variety of animals. Uses considerable independent judgement to make decisions.
  • Recommends and uses medically appropriate, cost-effective laboratory testing to establish diagnosis.
  • Actively listens to and partners with clients to develop appropriate care plan in line with owner expectations and wants.
  • Perform routine and specialized surgery or aids in the coordination of appropriate specialist evaluation and care.
  • Perform dental extractions and advanced treatments. Aids in the coordination of dental specialist evaluation and care.
  • Promotes a cooperative working environment with a willingness to help team members learn about veterinary medical issues by answering questions or providing training one-on-one or during staff/team meetings on key topics.
Exam Room Assistant

Our Exam Room Assistants:

  • The purpose of this position is to ensure quality care for pets and promote greater efficiency by assisting Veterinary Nurse/CVTs and Veterinarians with technical and administrative work.
  • Engage, communicate, and educate our clients on preventive care, nutrition, husbandry and more
  • Provide support to veterinarians and team members to provide patient restraint during examinations and treatment
  • Assist Veterinary Nurse/CVTs in patient care and monitoring
  • Perform laboratory procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment of patients
  • Perform and process digital and digital dental radiographs. Ensure proper technique and compliance with all OSHA standards
  • Prepare dispensed medications.
  • Prepare surgical and dental equipment, including sterilization
  • Assist in maintaining patient medical records and reminders
  • Perform callbacks
  • Enter charges after exams and procedures
  • Support other team members where needed
Veterinary Externship (Technician/Veterinary Assistant)
We believe in supporting veterinary technology students gain experience and perspective on their future career. Park Hill Vet has hosted students from the following schools: Bel Rea Institute of Animal Technology, Community College of Denver and Pima Medical Institute. When working with students in these programs, we try to provide as many practical and hands-on learning moments as able during their time with us such as blood and urine sample acquisition, safe animal restraint, IV catheter placement, patient care, dental x-ray positioning, general x-ray positioning, pharmacy training, practice management information system training and more.
Certified Veterinary Technician

Our Veterinary Nurse/CVTs:

  • The purpose of this position is to improve the quality of patient care by assisting the veterinarians with patient care, diagnostics and treatment.
  • Engage, communicate, and educate our clients on preventive care, nutrition, husbandry and more
  • Provide support to veterinarians and team members to provide patient restraint during examinations and treatment
  • Monitor patient conditions during treatments and procedures
  • Perform laboratory procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment of patients
  • Perform and process digital and digital dental radiographs. Ensure proper technique and compliance with all OSHA standards
  • Prepare medications for both outpatient and inpatients
  • Administer and monitor anesthetics under the direction of veterinarians
  • Prepare surgical and dental equipment, including sterilization
  • Assist in maintaining patient medical records and reminders
  • Perform callbacks
  • Enter charges after exams and procedures
  • Help to develop skills in other team members to ensure all succeed
Client Care Specialist

Our Client Care Specialists

  • The purpose of this position is to provide outstanding client service.
  • Welcome all clients, patients and vendors to the practice and make them comfortable
  • Answer all incoming calls on multi-line phone system as well as client text communications.
  • Engage, communicate, and educate our clients on scheduling, financial issues, differentiating client/patient appointment needs (routine vs. emergency), general inquiries and more
  • Check-in and check-out clients
  • Schedule appointments and procedures
  • Process payments and manage financial information
  • Help maintain critical client and patient data in our practice information management system
  • Facilitate communications between various teams to assist clients
Veterinary Externship (Veterinary Student)

We believe in supporting veterinary students gain experience and perspective on becoming a veterinarian. Veterinary students can arrange to spend up to four weeksin our busy practice to get real world experience.Some of the topics/skill areas covered include:

  • Preventive health care including providing a physical exam, evaluating care based on life stage and current health status.
  • Developing client communication and active listening skills
  • Using physical exam findings and patient history to develop differentials and diagnostic/treatment plan and review with owner
  • Learn about anesthesia, cytology, radiology, veterinary dentistry, pain management and surgical procedures.
  • Use of a practice management information system for computerized electronic medical records.
